Privacy notice
This notice explains how your personal data is used when you apply to the Terumo Africa Hackathon 2026. It is written to meet Kenya's Data Protection Act 2019.
Who is responsible for your data

What we collect and why
- Contact details (name, email, phone, country, organisation): to contact you about your application and the event.
- Background and answers (discipline, experience, skills, links, written answers): to assess your application against published criteria.
- Team and availability: to form balanced teams and plan logistics.
- Gender (optional): only to check the cohort is balanced. It is never used to score you.
- How you heard about us and campaign tags in the page address: to understand which channels work.
We also count anonymous page visits and form progress. This uses a random ID kept only for your browser session. We do not use advertising cookies.
Who can see your application
Only the named selection team, reviewers and administrators. Reviewers do not see your email address or phone number, and when blind review is on they do not see your name or organisation. Judges see your name and discipline only if you are selected.
How decisions are made
People make every selection decision using a written scoring guide. No automated system decides who is selected.
Where your data is stored and for how long
Your data is stored on servers located in [hosting location]. Unsuccessful applications are deleted [6 months] after the final event. Selected participants' data is kept for [period].
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, or object to how it is used, by emailing [privacy contact email]. You can also complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (Kenya).
